An Open Letter To WordPress

Many others have already reblogged this, I am simply sharing the genius. Goldfish has said better than I what is frustrating so many about the changes being randomly applied to WordPress, these days without forewarning and certainly without our agreement. I don’t know about you, but I am in full agreement with everything here. If like me you are annoyed you can’t see notifications on a single page, they are still there just bookmark from your site: https://wordpress.com/notifications

Fish Of Gold

Dear WordPress,

I am loath to write yet another letter to you, since I typically prefer to spend my time writing actual blog posts, but I’ve been bitching on Twitter and in your forums to no avail, so maybe you’ll pay attention to a blog post. It’s not likely, but hey, you never know.

Please, stop. Just put down whatever you’re working on and stop with the futzing. You have been tinkering under my hood long enough and you know what? None of the “improvements” you’ve made are actually improvements.

Below, you will find explanations as to why your improvements aren’t improvements sorted conveniently by feature.

Post Editor

Let’s talk about this “Beep beep boop” post editor nightmare with less than half the functionality of the old editor. Thankfully, you haven’t taken away the old editor yet. However, I fully expect that one day, I will go to write a…

  1. I am constantly emailing them about the “new and improved” developments they come up with. Everyone was happy before they started improving things – but I never get an answer from them.

    • Most of us don’t get answers. When they first came out with the ‘improved’ interface there was a forum board that grew to well over 1500 messages before it was shut down. I think the problem is they are trying to make it mobile friendly, not understanding most of us don’t post from our phones. I constantly complain as well. Every single time that popup comes up I tell them what I think.

I suspect most of us tell them what we think. Maybe eventually they will get the message.

Where are youuuuuuuuuuuu? Come back sooooooooooon 😦

  3. Goldfish expresses our collective exasperation brilliantly 😀 I put in my two penny bit on that thread as well Valentine. Can’t imagine why all this negative feedback is falling on deaf ears. I also don’t see the value of the pop up that keeps asking me why I don’t like the new stats page over and over!

  4. I can handle change when appropriate but I prefer the classic mode! Glad I am not the only one who was confused.

  5. Congratulations!

I have nominated your blog for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award.

More about this nomination is at

Very Inspiring Blogger Award, thank you Laiyla Lane!

  6. Thanks for linking to this. All along, I thought I was the only one unhappy with certain changes (especially the post editor – I refuse to use the new one, so if and when they take away the old one I don’t know what I’ll do).

  7. It’s frustrating when we don’t know the changes are coming and then one day open up the dashboard to see changes we may or may not like. Those are quite the tweets that Goldfish sends, by the way!

  8. I hope they’re listening. A whole lot is wrong about WP. My comments to some of my favorite bloggers go directly to their Spam. I hate feeling like I’m wasting my time. I actually like the exchange/flow of information between myself and bloggers I enjoy reading, hence my commenting. Aargh! Thanks lady! Be well.

  9. Val, so pleased you reblogged this post.. I am in total agreement.. So fed up too of the Beep Beep Bop and the latests straw is the notification panel.. which really now has me frustrated as I can not see who I replied to on other peoples posts replies.. with now no return arrow.. Not to mention the amount of times you get asked to switch to the upgraded mode.. which is not a patch on the old version…

That being said.. Hope all is well with you Val?…
    Hugs your way.. Sue x

Heavy sigh and a slap on my forehead with an open palm.

  11. Everything was just fine with the older version. Why mess with success? I mean, the Coca Cola company tried that before.

  12. I’m like Frank. I’m not a fan of the new Notifications, either, and I’m continuing to use the Classic Dashboard, too.

  13. Yes!

  14. I don’t care for the new Notifications … but I avoid the beep beep beep issue by continuing to use the Classic Dashboard.

    • You can still get to the old notifications using the address I provided from your own site. I just hope they never take it away. This letter says exactly what I think about all the new ‘functionality’.
