It burned hot. Flames had reached up to what seemed the moon and stars. She could hear the glass in the windows cracking from the heat of that fire. The children thought it was pretty and watched as it ravaged the only home they knew, not understanding what it meant.

The Fire Department never arrived, she couldn’t pay, not since he left and services were privatized for her part of town.

They watched it burn.

Fall Flash 5

“Dammit, I did it again.”

Jannelle stared at the crumpled garage door. She wondered how she would explain to her father who had just replaced the last one she ruined. It really wasn’t her fault she thought to herself.

First Tooty called, then Davy texted her, then Bobby called and she had to have a three way with him and Tooty.

How could she remember not to move forward into the door during all that?

Fall Flash – III

Many thought Tasha ravishingly beautiful; she thought they were blind to her true assets. Tasha wanted more; she had a plan to progress her goal.

Today her heels beat a staccato tattoo on waxed wood floors, announcing her arrival. Heads turned to follow her and then shook dismayed as she made her way toward the double doors. Tasha pushed with just the right pressure, collective breaths caught upon seeing her standing framed in the doorway.

“You can’t be here”, the older man said as he stood.

“Bitch!” A young woman mumbled.

“Daddy, I only want to meet the family.”

Flash: Tablecloth

Under the flickering candlelight, she drew pure silver thread through her fingers, creating intricate knots. Each knot leading to the next, a web of silver and when it was done, she attached silver fringe along the edge. She spread the silver masterpiece gently across the table she had been working at; a tablecloth fit for a king, her smile was incandescent as she considered her work.

The full moon was radiant tonight, lighting the room. The wolf song surrounded her cabin as she waited by the open door with her net of silver, fit for king or an alpha wolf.

Flash: Scurvy

Friday nights were always the same, he dragged in stinking of beer, she expected it even left the porch light on too prevent falls. He was an easy drunk, never making it down the hall instead passing out on the floor where she would throw a blanket over him after the requisite 20-minute wait time.

Tonight was different; she smelled the sour tang of blood and vomit as soon as the door opened. She heard him howling in pain. He stumbled into the bedroom, head lolling to the side, teeth blackened as if by scurvy, weeping.

Who was he?

Flash: Crystal

Her laughter, the tinkling of the crystal chandelier as the breeze played through it each time the door opened; she drew all eyes in the room without conscious thought. Waiters stumbled over themselves bringing her another flute of champagne, another tray of hors d’oeuvre to select from with her perfectly manicured fingers.

She was once one of them; they remembered her. She gently smiled and thanked them, then searched the room. Whom would she allow a dance tonight, to hold her close to beg her favor? The room held its collective breath, anticipation palpable.

True crooked her finger and danced.

Flash in the Pan: Wave of Emotion Promotion

Do you wonder what that big beautiful blue book is in my side bar? Come on, ask me; no really ask me.

Thanks, I am glad you asked.

That my friends is the compilation of all the Spring Flash in the Pan, all of the authors in one place including little ole moi. Pretty awesome, right? I can now say I am a published author, my scribbling’s have made it into a book with the incredible writings of other really wonderful authors, all of whom are truly funny and talented.

I am in awe.

I am shaking in my high heels.

arrow1

Some of these talented authors have blogs others submit directly for book publication. There are a total of 16 authors and 168 pieces of great Flash Fiction in the Spring edition. Personally, I loved this set of words, the emotional peaks and valleys of elation to brokenhearted. I had a wonderful time crafting the stories, my first foray into writing to prompts and containing my word counts. Anyone who reads my blog regularly knows I can be loquacious at times.

If you enjoyed the Flash Fiction on my blog for Spring, I hope you will think about buying the complete set and supporting all the great authors who contributed. Flash in the Pan, Wave of Emotion is available in Paperback, Kindle, EPub or PDF (I of course bought the Paperback who wouldn’t want to see their name in print).

Well that is my plug for the day. I am really excited about this, yes I really am. I am excited about RedmundPro Publishing, a unique approach to the publishing world and one I am thrilled to be part of and happy to promote. In the future expect to see more books and authors promoted from RedmundPro.

Spring Flash Finale

Flash in the Pan is brought to you by the amazing Red of M3 fame. To finish off the Spring Flash I bring to you the last of the words I didn’t finish in the order or the timeliness I should have, my bad. My wonderful sister of heart pinged me this morning to beat me kindly about the head and shoulders, with gentle reminders that I promised to do all the words.

So, without further ado, here are my entrants to Spring Flash

I will slap him if he does that again.

She felt the pinch on her arm, then the needle slide into her vein the rush of warmth and then nothing.

“Honey, can you hear me?”

It was her mother’s voice, why can’t she see me?

I am here, right here!

Dammit, what is wrong? Why can’t they hear me?

“I am sorry Mrs. Fragile, there is nothing more we can do. You will have to decide.”

“Oh, Doctor I know she is in there. She wouldn’t want to live this way though turn them off.”

No, wait I’m Alive!”

The entire town was apathetic, not a single adult or child within the city limits could be bothered with even the simplest of tasks. The pall of winter, having lasted into the spring sucked joy from all. The lament could be heard, “Will the sun ever shine again?”

Happy day, Saturday what should Lister find on the stoop?

Come one! Come all! See the Circus in Farmer Fred’s Field of Wonder, just outside town!

Lister ran door to door and the neighbors were aroused from their winter languor. What better way to end the winter but with a circus.

Birds do it, bees do it, mom and dad did it at least often enough to have all fifteen of us; so why on earth don’t I do it?”

This is what Trinity Proof thought as she sat on the park bench watching couples and families settle on their blankets. She was paying particular attention to the couples making goo-goo eyes, kissing and rubbing each other in the most salacious way.

Was that legal?”

Trinity bit her lip, pondered the question some more, at twenty-five she had yet to be kissed or anything more.  Now, no one noticed her or spoke to her as she sat on her lonely park bench.

With the setting sun, Trinity was alone in the park in the deepening twilight.

“Time to come home now Trinity, you have seen,” a deep voice whispered.

Amazed and unafraid she held out her arms for the embrace.

The Hot Flash word is Amazed. The word limit is 150 words. This one comes in at 149.
