Winter Flash-Mind

“Hit me.”

Three times in a row, against odds she had hit seventeen and come up with twenty-one. It was a fool’s play yet based on the pile of chips in front of her; she was anything but a fool. A crowd gathered watching, other players left the table, it became the Bride and the Dealer.

“Hit me.”

Again, she hit a seventeen and made twenty-one, the crowd burst into excited laughter. Finally, someone asked, “Where’s the groom?”

“At the chapel”, she answered, “A girl can change her mind can’t she?”

“Hit me.”

Winter Flash – Delusional

Jaffee reclined against the hard back of his throne, avoiding the spindles and rails depicting his heroic ascent to power. He surveyed the scene of last night’s debauchery. The sycophants belly crawled across the floor, their whines white noise rising to thunder.

Jaffee polished his sword surveying what he had won by the strength of his arm. Should he desire it, he could demand any of these fools lay down so he could walk across them.

“Jeff, young man turn off that damned video game and clean your room!”

“Aw, Mom not now.”

“My God, you’re a delusional child.”

Fall Flash-The End

“He is a charlatan”, Mina sputtered , “How can you consider this?”

“Oh, honey he’s just a squirrel trying to get a nut, it will be fun”, Mona replied, “I see a tall dark man”.

Mina looked thoughtful, ‘What did Mona know?’

“He’ll reach you first, give him your hand”.

Charles patted his inner pocket, his ticket to another world as if it were charmed. All around him, the noise was overwhelming. The excitement of other passengers palatable, ready to embark on an adventure, a shiver ran down his spine.

He glanced to the bow; Titanic, he shivered again.

The air was crisp, the end of summer a tang running through True’s awareness, lifting her spirit just slightly. She sat outdoors, sipping coffee, twirling a curl and watching the final revelers stagger home, primitive passions finally spent. Cheshire smile bent perfect lips, she knew they would return tomorrow night.

Fall Flash 12

Marlene stared across the yard, watching Jimmy John scratch his backside attempting to impress the new girl.

“Why did my parents continue to procreate?”

This question ran through Marlene’s mind as she watched the grin spread across his face for the umpteenth time.

“What in the hell is wrong with that nitwit girl?”

Jimmy John hiked up his pants and leaned in to whisper some inane nothing; the girl actually blushed and giggled, giggled for the love of God.

Marlene watched Jimmy John shuffled back to the porch a smile plastered to his face, “Well, sister looks like I got me a fresh one for Friday night.”

“What the hell did you say to this one JJ?”

“The same thing your husband said to you the first time you said yes!”

Jimmy John guffawed and slapped his knee. Marlene thought, “I have to get out of this backward town”.

“Dammit, I did it again.”

Jannelle stared at the crumpled garage door. She wondered how she would explain to her father who had just replaced the last one she ruined. It really wasn’t her fault she thought to herself.

First Tooty called, then Davy texted her, then Bobby called and she had to have a three way with him and Tooty.

How could she remember not to move forward into the door during all that?

Spring Flash Finale

Flash in the Pan is brought to you by the amazing Red of M3 fame. To finish off the Spring Flash I bring to you the last of the words I didn’t finish in the order or the timeliness I should have, my bad. My wonderful sister of heart pinged me this morning to beat me kindly about the head and shoulders, with gentle reminders that I promised to do all the words.

So, without further ado, here are my entrants to Spring Flash

I will slap him if he does that again.

She felt the pinch on her arm, then the needle slide into her vein the rush of warmth and then nothing.

“Honey, can you hear me?”

It was her mother’s voice, why can’t she see me?

I am here, right here!

Dammit, what is wrong? Why can’t they hear me?

“I am sorry Mrs. Fragile, there is nothing more we can do. You will have to decide.”

“Oh, Doctor I know she is in there. She wouldn’t want to live this way though turn them off.”

No, wait I’m Alive!”

The entire town was apathetic, not a single adult or child within the city limits could be bothered with even the simplest of tasks. The pall of winter, having lasted into the spring sucked joy from all. The lament could be heard, “Will the sun ever shine again?”

Happy day, Saturday what should Lister find on the stoop?

Come one! Come all! See the Circus in Farmer Fred’s Field of Wonder, just outside town!

Lister ran door to door and the neighbors were aroused from their winter languor. What better way to end the winter but with a circus.

Birds do it, bees do it, mom and dad did it at least often enough to have all fifteen of us; so why on earth don’t I do it?”

This is what Trinity Proof thought as she sat on the park bench watching couples and families settle on their blankets. She was paying particular attention to the couples making goo-goo eyes, kissing and rubbing each other in the most salacious way.

Was that legal?”

Trinity bit her lip, pondered the question some more, at twenty-five she had yet to be kissed or anything more.  Now, no one noticed her or spoke to her as she sat on her lonely park bench.

With the setting sun, Trinity was alone in the park in the deepening twilight.

“Time to come home now Trinity, you have seen,” a deep voice whispered.

Amazed and unafraid she held out her arms for the embrace.

The Hot Flash word is Amazed. The word limit is 150 words. This one comes in at 149.

FTP 11 Brokenhearted

Screeching tires warn of impending doom, the entire street freezes. A child wails, ear piercing, brokenhearted as angels weep. Mothers, uncertain run to their doors. Was this their child?

In the center of the road she stood, teddy in tatters.

No living person was harmed only her beloved teddy bear.

FTP 10 Ashamed

“She is your child to the core!”

“It took both of us to create her I suspect.”

“She is yours. Just look at her, no sense of shame.”

The both stared out the window at their beautiful three-year-old child, gleeful in her innocence cavorting in the noonday sun. Mother her brow pulled together and lips pursed; but Father, his smile nearly as broad as the Linda_the fence0001child’s.

“Father, aren’t you ashamed just look she is climbing over the fence. What will the neighbors think?”

“It looks dangerous, she might get splinters, but why ashamed?”

“She is naked!”

“She is a child.”

FTP 9 Intoxicated

True watched with jaded eyes and a secret smile. That one, he would be hers. Intoxicated, power flowing she focused. He dropped the hand of his partner meeting True’s eyes, bowing his head, submission in his every movement. Yes, he would be hers before the end of the night.

The season’s last revelry, the affluent of the city snap up tickets to a night of well-contained folly. Unbeknownst to them, this night will be different, this night the well-heeled are visited by Bacchus himself, their party spilling into the streets of the city, embracing the true meaning of bacchanalia.
